Event Details
This unique program will portray the daily lives and thoughts of two very different women living in Boston’s first decade.
The dramatic first person presentation by expert role players from Plimoth Plantation will bring the historical reality of women’s lives to a modern audience of children and adults. The role players perform and interact with audience members " in character" as women of the Massachusetts Bay Colony in the mid-1630s. The program will be exciting for people with a general interest in our early history, and students of American history, women’s and gender studies.
Middle and high-school aged students are highly encouraged to attend.
This event is the kickoff to a long weekend of events in celebration of Boston Charter Day.
Also included in the event is the special Boston Charter Day art exhibit "Remember These Women," which is displayed in the Church lobby. Please enjoy these unique portraits of women in 17th century New England.

Each year we commemorate the naming of Boston, Dorchester, and Watertown on September 7, 1630 and hold a series of events to teach the public about early days of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Boston Charter Day is funded in part by Mass Humanities, which receives support from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and is an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities."
